Morton, Arthur Silver (1870-1945) [info]. Under western skies: Being a series of pen-pictures of the Canadian West in early fur trade times. Toronto: Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1936.
Physical description: [18], 252 p., illus.; 21.5 cm.

The true first edition was published in October 1936 in a fairly limited edition. What has long been thought to be the first edition was published, February 1937, with text entirely reset, front matter rearranged, one chapter title changed, and lacking three plates which are in the 1936 edition ("Indian encampment," "Sauteaux Indian travelling in winter with his family near Lake Winnipeg," and "A Blackfoot chief): Toronto: Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1937 ([18], 232p.). Popular history at one time authorized for use in Saskatchewan as teacher's reference for grades 9-11. Describes buffalo, prairies, Indians, HBC and NWC fur traders, and conquest of the Barren Grounds, ending in 1848. Adapted from articles which first appeared in the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix .
