Peel 362

Ermatinger, Edward (1797-1876) [info]. The Hudson's Bay territories: A series of letters on this important question. Toronto: Maclear, Thomas & Co, 1858.
Physical description: 32 p.; 24.5 cm.
Language: English
Twelve letters to the Hamilton Spectator and St. Thomas Colonist , dated July 8, 1857 to March 31, 1858, in response to various published attacks on HBC, most particularly Peel 344. Ermatinger described his position: "I am not the apologist of the Hudson's Bay Company, neither am I a panderer to popular prejudice; but I claim to be an humble advocate of truth and fair dealing, the principles of which have been shamefully violated, by many of those who have advocated the annexation of the whole of the Hudson's Bay Territories to the Province of Canada" (page 26).
