The object was to open a route to the new gold fields on the Fraser River. The report takes up only pages 3-6; the remainder is various and eight appendices: I. "Proceedings of public meetings held at St. Paul, July 1, 7, 10, and 17, 1858"; II. "Particulars of the gold discovery of Frazer and Thompson rivers, and of emigration thither"; III. "Geographical description of Minnesota north of latitude forty-six" by J.W. Taylor; IV. "Routes through Minnesota to the navigable waters of the Red River of the North"; V.
