Language: Cree

Title-page in Cree syllabics; also transliterated as Kanawchi kihchi masinawhikaton or Kanachi kichi masinaikan . In double column format. The New Testament portion has a separate title-page with imprint: London: Printed by W.M. Watts for the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1862. The Old Testament and New Testament were also both issued separately. Although Mason's name appeared on the title-page as translator, it was a co-operative effort by the missionary group at Rossville. Sinclair is said to have translated from Genesis to Esther, and from Matthew to Acts. Steinhauer translated from Job to Malachi, and from the Acts of the Apostles to the end of the New Testament. William and Sophia Mason returned to England in 1858 to work on the revision of the text and to see the Bible through the press. See bibliographical references at Peel 209. See also Peel 387.
