Peel 592

Riel, Louis (1844-1885) [info]; Assiniboia. Provisional government, 1869-1870. Protestation des peuples du nord-ouest. [Winnipeg?: s.n, 1870].
Physical description: Broadside: 75 lines.; Type-page, 40 x 16.5 cm.
Language: French
On two pages. Is this a proof intended to have been issued as a single sheet? The date May 14, 1870 has been provisionally assigned to this broadside in two pieces. Alexander Begg, the observant diarist, does not mention it, and it is probable that the document is a draft which was never issued. It is a statement of the position of the French-speaking inhabitants of the Red River Settlement in their dispute with the Canadian government. For facsimile see Bruce Peel, Early printing in the Red River Settlement 1859-1870 , page 34.
