Macoun, John (1832-1920.)
1832-1920. Botanist; member of Fleming's exploration party to the Pacific, 1872; carried on botanical survey work for the Dominion government, 1870s and 1880s; appointed assistant director and naturalist of Geological Survey of Canada, 1885; his views on agricultural productivity of area within "Palliser's Triangle" said to have influenced government policy (Wallace, Dictionary of Canadian biography).
