1844-1885. Métis leader; president of provisional government at Red River, 1869-1870; escaped with arrival of Wolseley's forces; elected to House of Commons to represent Provencher, 1873 and 1874, but unable to sit; declared an outlaw, 1875; lived in Montana until invited by Métis to the Saskatchewan country, 1884; executed at Regina, November 16, 1885.
