Dennis, John Stoughton younger (1856-1938.)
1856-1938. Son of John Stoughton Dennis (elder); civil engineer; to the West as a surveyor, 1872; served for four years as surveyor with HBC; commanded Dennis' Scouts during Saskatchewan Rebellion; inspector of surveys for Dominion government, 1887-1894; chief engineer with the irrigation branch, 1894-1902; deputy-commissioner of public works for the NWT, 1897-1902; became chief commissioner of CPR's Department of Colonization and Development, 1902; appointed assistant to the president of CPR, 1911; Director of Transportation and Intelligence for Canadian brigade in Siberia during First World War (Morgan, Canadian men and women of the time, 1912; Who's who in Canada, 1922; MacRae, History of the province of Alberta).
