Palliser, John (1817-1887.)
1817-1887. Born in Ireland and largely educated there; went on hunting expedition in western USA, 1847, described in his Solitary rambles and adventures of a hunter in the prairies, first published 1853; in command of the British government expedition sent out with instructions to explore British North America between parallels 49º and 50º N, and 100º and 115º W, 1857-1860; died at his home in Ireland (Dictionary of National Biography;Wallace, Dictionary of Canadian biography).
