Fairfield, William Harmon (1874-1961.)

1874-1961. Graduate of State Agricultural College in Colorado; taught at University of Wyoming; came to farm at Lethbridge and was soon tackling agricultural problems, 1901; when Mormon settlers could not make alfalfa grow he sent to Wyoming for a bag of soil in which alfalfa had grown in order to inoculate the plants so they could take nitrogen from the air; because of his wizardry the Alberta Railway & Irrigation Co. had him set up a demonstration station, which became the Dominion Experimental Farm; director for many years until retirement in 1945 (Who's who in the Agricultural Institute of Canada; Lethbridge Herald, March 24, 1961).
