1819-1894. Born at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England; to West with Henry B. Steinhauer as Methodist missionary; stationed at Edmonton, Woodville mission at Pigeon Lake, and Smoking Lake (now called Smoky Lake), 1855-1864; Peter Erasmus served as his interpreter; to eastern Canada and England on fundraising tour; married Sarah Wolverson, sister-in-law of Robert Rundle.
