1829-1903. Born at Hénanbihen, France; joined Oblate order, 1857; arrived in Canada, 1859; finished theological studies in Ottawa and ordained, 1861; missionary on upper Ottawa River and Hudson Bay, 1861-1869; in various posts in Canada and USA; sent to Winnipeg, 1882, but most time spent outside Winnipeg in Qu'Appelle Valley and Fort Alexander; first postmaster at a Métis settlement named in his honour, 1884-1886; stationed at Macleod, 1896-1902; died in Calgary (Morice, Histoire de l'église catholique; Pilling, Bibliography of the Algonquian languages).
