fl.1851-1904. From England as medical missionary for Colonial and Continental Church Society, 1851; at Red River, 1852-1855; built Headingley Church, 1854; appeared before Select Committee on HBC in England, 1857; one of party of five who made exploratory trip southeast as far as Lake of the Woods to test practicability of road between Red River and Lake Superior; brought to trial for his relationship with a maid, sentenced to 6 months, escaped from jail, and fled from region and family, 1863; returned to England, 1864; held many short-term appointments as a curate; listed in Crockford's as late as 1904; wife and family remained in Red River Settlement (Hargrave, Red River).
