1879-1981. Born in France; educated at the Sorbonne and Université de Lyons; to Canada with his wife and settled in Rich Valley, northwest of Edmonton, 1905; began writing in the winter of 1919-1920; published novels and a book of poems; credited with a sensitive portrayal of the Canadian West and man's struggle with the forces of nature; also known internationally among rose growers for his Theresa Bugnet, a thornless rose which took 25 years to produce (Edmonton Journal, November 13, 1948).
