From Quebec City to Red River, 1867; first merchant to bring in goods of Canadian manufacture; connected with two ephemeral Winnipeg newspapers, Manitoba Trade Review, 1871 and Daily Herald, 1877; deputy treasurer of Manitoba, 1878-1884; immigration agent for CPR for some years; died in Victoria (Wolfenden, "Begg vs. Begg" in British Columbia Historical Quarterly, 1937; Begg, Ten years in Winnipeg).
