Description: View of Banff Sanitarium on the south side of the Bow River. Developed as a combined hotel and hospital specializing in the treatment of ailments such as arthritis and certain skin problems which benefited from the hot mineral waters, the sanitarium averaged about 2,200 registered guests per annum before 1900. The building later became known as the Sanatorium Hotel and as Bretton Hall. It was destroyed by fire in the 1930s.
