This numbered edition, of which there were at least 372 copies, is described as "deluxe," yet there is no evidence either in the volume itself or in library catalogues of an edition which was not deluxe. The first part (pages 5-307) deals with the history of Manitoba, with particular emphasis on the various immigrant groups which have contributed to the growth of the province. The "Biographies" section (pages [309]-672) describes the lives of some Manitoba notables, among whom Bryce includes himself. There are portraits of some of these notables throughout the work. According to the preface: "To tell the story of Manitoba, and to give examples both by portrait and description of the men who are building up the new province is the object of this book" (page 4).
