Cameron, who travelled with her niece Jessie Cameron Brown, describes scenery as well as travel conditions and the various people she met (including Natives) on her 16,000 km journey from Chicago to the Arctic Ocean and back, via Winnipeg, Calgary, Athabasca, Great Slave Lake, Peace River, Lesser Slave Lake. Most of the book is devoted to the Mackenzie Valley.
