- Appendix on pages [29]-54 contains Peel 281, as well as the eighth report (1851) of the Standing Committee on Railways and Telegraph Lines. MacDonell showed, on paper at least, that a railway would derive a lucrative revenue by exporting buffalo tallow and tongues from the western plains. A railway from Lake Superior would re-route the trade carried by cart between Red River Settlement and St Paul. The Company was incorporated by the Legislature of Canada in 1858.
