1833-1931. Born at Red River Colony; Danish-Cree parentage; studied to become Anglican clergyman; became interpreter for Methodist missionary in Fort Edmonton region, 1855; interpreter-guide for Palliser expedition, 1858-1859; helped build Methodist mission at Smoky Lake, Alberta; worked with missionaries G.M. McDougall and John McDougall; became free trader, trapper, and hunter around Whitefish Lake, 1865; worked for federal Indian Department intermittently (Canadian Encyclopedia).
