Mackay, John Alexander (1838-1923.)
1838-1923. Native of Moosonee, Ontario; trained under Bishop Horden; ordained in the Church of England, 1862; at York Factory, 1862-1864, Stanley, 1864-1876, Nepowewin and Carlton, 1876-1877, and Battleford, 1877-1879; Cree tutor at Emmanuel College, Prince Albert, 1880-1884; in charge of Indian reserves at Battleford, 1885-1887; professor of divinity at Emmanuel, 1887-1900; superintendent of missions in diocese of Saskatchewan, 1900-1921; reorganized day school at Little Pine reserve, 1922; translator of religious works into Cree (Hopkins, Canadian annual review, 1923).
