Their description of the opportunities offered by the prairies and British Columbia helped prepare public opinion for a federation including the West. Milton's great-great-grandson, Michael Shaw Bond, was inspired to re-create the journey from Winnipeg and write an account: Way out West: On the trail of an errant ancestor , Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 2001.
